Our Story

We’re Victor & Shay Cathey.
We dated for three years before a yearlong engagement, which included lengthy premarital counseling. Our common love for sports, singing chapel songs mostly out of key, and watching every episode of the television show "Friends" solidified our status as best friends long before we became husband and wife in 2003.
As newlyweds, we immediately joined the marriage ministry at our local congregation. Our enthusiasm and commitment to the programs morphed into teaching classes, hosting small group meetings, mentoring couples, planning marriage retreats, and eventually leading larger sessions and facilitating conferences.

Along the way, we became parents to three wonderfully imperfect sons who inspire us to model a healthy, wholesome, and loving marriage. We are two people who honestly love marriage having seen it firsthand in both of our childhood homes. We value its sacredness and what it represents to the family, the community, and the Body of Christ.
Marriage and parenting in this millennium has strengthened our resolve to remain committed to each other and increased our desire to sprinkle a lot of good times in between the junk life throws at us. So much so, that we call our little family: #CatheyPartyofFive. We’re a road-tripping, memory making, experience creating little family.

Our hearts were led to believe that our joys, successes, mess ups, and interests could be used to help others. We just didn’t know how to do it. Doors started opening. We started praying. God started moving and we began following. Thus, Cathey Party of Five; a Marriage and Family Ministry was confirmed as our calling.
We hope this gives us a larger platform to engage other couples and share our love for the institution of marriage and family.
Our primary focus during this season is marriage strengthening. However, we look forward to sharing stories about our sons and how parenting them has brought us closer to God and to each other.
Thank you for joining us on the journey. #CatheyPartyofFive
